Sean Bannister

Sean is a tax manager in LSG’s tax team.

Sean specialises in assisting clients subject to HMRC enquiry and fulfils a more general tax compliance and advisory role. Sean was previously at a top 10 accountancy practice and specialised in tax risk and dispute resolution. Sean has gathered significant experience in the following areas:

• Code of Practice 9 enquiries (cases of suspected of serious fraud)
• Code of Practice 8 enquiries (cases where Civil Investigation of Fraud procedures are not used)
• Local district enquiries (personal and corporate)
• Complex offshore structures
• Taxation of offshore portfolios
• Liechtenstein resident structures
• Forensic bank account analysis
• Taxation of OEIC and SICAV type funds
• Personal Tax Compliance

Sean has prepared disclosures for numerous clients under a number of HMRC’s disclosure facilities. In addition, he has assisted a great number of non UK domiciled individuals in addressing their UK tax liabilities in a cost efficient and swift manner, whilst seeking to secure the most tax advantageous position going forward.

In addition to working with individuals, Sean has assisted clients with the preparation of a great number of corporate disclosures under Code of Practice 9. As such, Sean can readily identify areas in which systemic weaknesses may result in liabilities for the company as well as the directors. Forensic analysis of the type required for corporate entities in cases where serious fraud is suspected is a strength. Sean is well placed to recognise areas of risk, resulting in reduced time costs for the client and lower overall professional fees.

In more recent times, Sean has seen his time increasingly devoted to the taxation of offshore portfolios and funds. The wealth of experience Sean has gathered in the recent past in this area means he is converse in analysing the tax exposure created by said portfolios and elements of the fund which may not be taxable in the UK.

Sean seeks to provide his clients with a complete tax dispute, compliance and advisory service. It’s Sean’s thought that the client’s circumstances must be considered in there entirety so that problems are addressed in the most tax advantageous manner possible, not just in terms of historic issues but by understanding the options available to address those problems and there impact on the future. By viewing matters in the round Sean is better positioned to offer his client’s tax advice that provides lifetime value.

Prior to joining the profession Sean graduated with a BSc (Hons) from the University of London.
